Player Handout 1

.) Although all female PCs will be allowed to “fight,” those women wishing to adhere to the strictest cultural ideas of the Haina Empire should limit themselves to lending aid to the city defenders and soldiers whenever possible. It is generally more acceptable for a woman to aid a male warrior in a non-confrontational way (for example: by casting support or healing spells) than it is for her to engage in mortal combat. If such combat becomes a necessity, a Hainese woman should attempt to refrain from melee combat and stick to ranged attacks if at all possible. The only way this cultural stricture can be lifted is if the General himself were to offer pardon or amnesty to the female Hainese citizens.

.) As Zhuan is a city under martial law, outlander PCs who want to fight will be expected to follow the orders given them by the NPC Hainese military officers. If you don’t follow orders, then you’re most likely a spy—or at the very least if you’re not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem. (Of course, as always, the PCs are always free to choose their own actions—and their consequences.)

.) In proper military fashion, each table will be assigned a “Table Commander” for this event. (Ideally it would be the PC with the most “military” experience, however given a particular player in the “real” world that may not be the case.) The Table Commander’s duties are simple: make all mission decisions and offer assistance to other tables (see below). If a Table Commander PC falls in battle, a new Table Commander must be chosen immediately. The new Table Commander will hold the position until the previous Commander is restored, or the end of the Encounter.

.) Finally, during the B.I., on their initiative, as a move-equivalent action a Table Commander for a table that is having difficulty with its current mission may request “help” from any other table nearby. The Table Commander may raise a “red flag” (piece of red paper provided). The “red flag” may only be raised if a PC has “dropped” or been otherwise totally incapacitated. To be clear, there may be only SIX active PCs on any one table. Any other Table Commander may then offer ONE PC from their table to temporarily join the requesting table. (The proffered PC must be within 4 levels of the requesting table’s APL.) The proffered PC will leave their table as their next action on their initiative number and will then join the requesting table (on the round following the Table Commander’s request for help), at their same initiative number. The PC may stay at the new table for either 5 rounds, or until the downed PC rejoins the battle. After returning to his original table, he may again be sent to help, at the discretion of his Table Commander. The offering or receiving of help may NOT be done during any “Special Missions.”
