"Jewel Stendan." |
DescriptionJewel is a female human, approximately 1.69m (5'6") tall and weighing 54.5kg (120#), with hazel eyes and brown hair. Her hair is kept long but usually braided and coiled in space or on a mission, and she always wears a shipsuit. A platinum and gold wedding band graces the ring finger of her left hand, and sometimes when she moves, a glint of silver can be seen at her wrist and neck. She is lithe and moves gracefully, like a gymnast or a dancer, and carries herself well, almost arrogantly. She always has her datapad and tools with her. Background and PersonalityNote: the information that follows is NEVER disclosed by Jewel to chance companions. While you are welcome to read this OOC, please note that unless Jewel herself told you some part of this (highly unlikely for most people), it is information your PC doesn't have. Thank you.Birthdate: June 30, [1982-equivalent]. She turned 23 on June 30, 2005. Juliana grew up in the city of Coronet, the capital
city of Corellia. The area was known for sending successful Jedi candidates
to the Academy, and the upper-class families (of which Juliana's was one)
prized the ability to work with the Force. Among those families, a child
without the talent to manipulate the Force was a "disappointment" no matter
how otherwise talented they were.

|
| Although her parents
were disappointed that Juliana did not show any Force sensitivity, they
still made sure she had an excellent education, sending her to the University
at Alderaan at the age of 12 for training as an engineer. They were a bit
chagrined, however, when she started entering and winning pod races and
spending her free time at the star docks.
Her time at the docks paid off in unexpected dividends, however. Within a few months, she had managed to pilot just about every type of transport that landed there, and had gotten the attention of the Alderaan military. Though she was too young to recruit, they made sure she had the chance to spend time in the cockpits of the starfighters, hoping that would incline her toward signing up when she was old enough. As much as she loved flying the starfighters, however, she recognized that military life was not for her. Juliana - or "Jewel" as she was known to the techs on the docks - graduated from University, then spent a year on Mon Calamari with the starship designers there. When she returned to Corellia at the age of 18, her parents expected her to join one of the large shipbuilding firms, and in fact had arranged for interviews with the Corellian Engineering Corporation, but Jewel had other ideas. Well aware that as an engineer she would not be able to tinker, and that she would always be faced with the pity of those to whom non-Force-users were second-class citizens, she opted for the rough camaraderie of the pilots and techs. She moved from the family compound as soon as she could support herself, and shipped out as a pilot on a transport bound for Cularin as soon as she could after that. Arriving on Cularin at 19, Jewel wa an independent young woman - smart, well educated, an excellent pilot, and good with mechanical and electronic equipment. She had the arrogance of someone who knows she's very good, but is a little insecure about something. In Jewel's case, the "something" has nothing to do with her skills and training, but with her lack of Force sensitivity The combination of that bone-deep knowledge that "something is missing" and her experience with the pitying attitude of her family and others of her class has made her wary of Jedi, and likely to stay close to other "techies". Otherwise, she is witty and charming, if a little shy with strangers. She soon developed a special attachment with a Scoundrel named Ril Stendan; rumors of their engagement spread among those with whom they have worked. While most of those "in the know" aren't talking, there is a rumor that after some work for Nirama, a package for Ril was delivered to his new home ...... Those rumors were confirmed not long after, as both Ril and Jewel fended off advances by others. Before they made a formal announcement, neither was shy about introducing the other as their fiance or fiancee. And both had been heard to mutter complaints about missions that seem to be for only one of them. On June 12, 2002, invitations to Ril and Jewel's wedding were sent to the wedding party and a small group of friends, announcing that the wedding would be held on July 15, 2002. Whether it's her relationship with Ril, the increased confidence that comes with successful missions, or the acceptance she had been getting from Force-users and non-Force-users alike, Jewel became considerably more comfortable around people in general, and Jedi in particular, than when she landed on Cularin. She counts among her friends both Jedi and Force Adepts, and began to treat the new Jedi she met with only a little more wariness than anyone else. Wedded LifeOn July 15, 2002, as the suns set over Cularin, Jewel married her beloved Ril, and became Juliana Stendan. The wedding ceremony was held near the Tarasin's sacred Ch'hala grove, and the Tarasin Force Adept Da'Iana officiated. The wedding party and guests then attended a reception at the Mountain View resort. The guests overwhelmed the newlyweds with their generosity, and Ril and Jewel, and their partner, the Jedi Consular Ian-Rafe, are planning a visit to Ma'Haffee Shipyards in the very near future - right after the honeymoon.Jewel and Ril had to handle a couple of missions before being able to depart on their honeymoon; one of those took them to Coruscant, where they had an additional two weeks of honeymoon. During that time they also met with Jewel's family. Upon returning to the Cularin system, they spent two weeks on Dorumaa, then returned to their home in Hedrett. Upon their return they immediately put in an order for a new YT-1300, which they planned to name the Corellian Dancer. Unfortunately, a large backlog at the shipyard, and certain incidents affecting the very fabric of the system itself, caused a delay. But, the Dancer was finally delivered early the next year. Ril and Jewel planned modifications, but had to wait almost two years before Ma'Haffee Shipyards had the parts available. In the meantime, however, Jewel purchased a landspeeder, and Ril an airspeeder, for their use on Cularin. Not long after, Ril's long-awaited astromech droid also cleared the factory. "Fret," as the droid has come to be known, has been an interesting and entertaining addition to the household, joining Shmouse, the mouse droid who attached himself to Jewel on Uffel. The amount of time they've been spending on Dorumaa encouraged Ril and Jewel to build a vacation home there, and they spend almost half of their free time there. Over the years they spent their time on missions, working on ship repair and ship modifications for their business Stendan Starworks, and vacationing on Dorumaa or Oluna Biqua. In January, 2006 they conceived their first child and began to speak seriously of devoting most of their time to Stendan Starworks, or possibly returning to Corellia to manage the estates Jewel's family had transferred to their names. But they both felt that there was something left undone, and that they could not leave until that something was taken care of. On March 18, 2006 the call they'd both been dreading and looking for came. A call to come to the Cularin 4 - a visit to the asteroid belt - an ending at the Heart Tree. They've returned to their Hedrett home, but only for a while, as they plan for a future as far out of the spotlight as their past has been in it. Professional
Jewel worked her way to Cularin as a pilot and expert on starship repair; the missions she's undertaken since have utilized those skills as well as her considerable skills with computers and explosives. However, Ril had incorporated himself as Stendan Starworks, and brought Jewel in as a partner once they were engaged. Jewel's primary responsibility is starship design and engineering, though she works with Ril on modifications and repair as required or as time permits. |

Family
Jewel's family is a wealthy, old money family, descended from one of the first families to settle Corellia, and members of the old Corellian nobility. In addition to their main estate in the city of Coronet, they have holdings elsewhere on Corellia, including a large farm and ranch complex. They also maintain a residence near the Gold Beaches, and another among the spires of Coruscant. Jewel's father Michel is a Jedi Master (Guardian), and an instructor at the Academy on Coruscant. Jewel's mother Nicole is a Jedi Knight (Guardian); she sometimes trains the young women aspiring to be a Jedi. Jewel has three older brothers and a younger sister; all of them are Jedi or in training. Of all of them, Jewel is closest to her eldest brother, Marc (29); he cared for her when she was small and their parents away and never seemed to treat her with condescension and pity. He became a Jedi Knight (Consular) rather than a Jedi Guardian, and was sent to Alderaan while Jewel was at University there. Christophe (26) and Nicolas (23) are both Jedi Guardians, and Jewel's sister Renee is a Jedi Consular-in-training (she's only 9). It is unclear what the reaction of Jewel's family will be when she weds Ril Stendan. The most likely response is simple acceptance; Jewel's lack of force sensitivity, her choice of work, and her disappearance from Coronet Society combined to make her unattractive to the eligible Society bachelors. Given that, her family is likely to be philosophical about her choice. In addition, despite their biases, Jewel's family are fundamentally decent people and not likely to make life difficult for the couple (though Jewel suspects that Cristophe and Nicolas might pretend to do so). And, in fact, they did accept - and grow to love - Ril. A second wedding ceremony on Coruscant did much to heal the hurt of not being informed of the wedding on Cularin, and time spent with the family started to heal the years of mutual withdrawal. Communication as the years passed healed even more, and so it seemed a natural thing for Jewel's family, recognizing that Jedi were being used up in the War, to turn over the family estates to Ril and Jewel. Not long after that, Ril received a communication from his "stepmother" - his father's second wife - and he and Jewel slipped past the blockade and into Corellia to get her (Aleen) and her daughter, Trina - Ril's stepsister - and bring them to Cularin. Trina, Force-sensitive, found a home and a teacher with Da'Iana's former apprentice, Ennia, and Aleen stayed in the irstat to be near her daughter. She'd recently begun seeing a Corellian spacer. Time passed - the bad news began to roll in. First Christophe, then Nicole, fell in the War. Perhaps because of distance, or time, or fate, Jewel has not yet felt the deaths of her remaining family, but with the news of Order 66 and this "Darth Vader" who is hunting Jedi and promising to eradicate every one, it can only be a matter of time. |
