Description

Tamar Kahtun is a young woman in her late 20s, standing about 5'3" tall, sturdily built but very fit. She has a swarthy complexion and straight, black hair that falls past her shoulderblades and is tied back and wound with a brightly-embroidered strip of cloth. She wears over-the-knee tight-fitting boots under loose, heavily embroidered skirts, with a close-fitting embroidered jacket over the supple links of a gleaming mithral shirt. The embroidered sash around her waist holds a well-made Altherian steel long sword and a silver short sword, and there's a bowcase over her shoulder. The rest of her goods appear to be in the saddlebags of one of her two horses.

She is accompanied by two Yhing Hir horses, one a light warhorse, and one a riding horse, an Altherian stallion, a wolf lizard, and a black cat with emerald green eyes.

Background and Personality

Tamar started to ride as soon as she could sit, and thereafter was almost never afoot except to study or to sleep (and sometimes not even then). She passed the test of manhood while still a girl, younger than many boys of her tribe. Her marriage to a minor Khan was one of both convenience and love, and she and Burkhan - and later their son, Dayir - were a happy and close family.

After her husband and child died, she chose to leave the tribes, and started for the town of Baktara. Once there, she was attracted to the corral of a horse merchant, but did not complete a purchase. Not long after, she was drafted, along with several outlanders, to assist the Khan of the Khur Gi tribe of Yhing Hir.

Tamar tends to be bold and brassy - she's very confident and not afraid to speak her mind. The loss of her husband and son are still an open wound, but one she keeps private. She's very feminine, but in a straightforward way - she doesn't flirt.

Family

Tamar was married at 15 to Burkhan Khatun, the leader of a minor Takomir tribe. By the time she was 17, they had a son, Dayir. Unfortunately, the next years brought them no more children, but Dayir grew into a sturdy and intelligent boy, the pride of his parents and the tribe.

Late in the year 1027, the tribe was raided by xxx, and in repelling the raid many of the tribe's warriors died. Among them were Burkhan and his son - the ten-year-old Dayir having picked up a dagger to attempt to kill the raider who killed his father. The decimated tribe joined with another, but Tamar felt a restlessness that wouldn't allow her to settle into her old role as woman and warrior. Additionally, none of the men would take her to wife, citing her barrenness after her first child. So she left to seek her life elsewhere.

      Wolf Lizard (Cho'hi Fachu): These quick saurian creatures are about the size of small dogs, and are native to the interior of the arid steppes and rocky plains of the Hinterlands. Wolf Lizards have black paws and feet, and their scales are mottled earthy tones ranging from light tan to striated browns and greens, with yellowish underbellies. They are sleek and bipedal, running on their hind legs, with tiny grasping hands that end in hooked claws. Their sloping angular heads have large mouths filled with rows of tiny razor sharp teeth. Though they dwell in arid environments, wolf lizards are good swiimmers, often lurking near watering holes to ambush prey. They are typically active from dusk until dawn.
      Combat: Wolf Lizards usually hunt in packs, though a lone pack scout or rogue may be encountered. They patrol their pack's territory (usually a 1-2 mile radius), looking for wounded animals or ambushing the unwary from hollows, under rock shelves, or heights. They surround prey and bark to confuse them, running them down or using continuous hit-and-run tactics for larger, more dangerous prey.
