1st Report (Dated 7 Anguis)

Excavation of the great idol continues at a very good pace. One worker lost two nights ago – poor devil was stung by a scorpion and had a bad reaction. Aside from that minor loss, all is well.
Research by Aht’Razzi indicates that there is a complex beneath the idol and that the tunnels we found some months ago used to lead into them before they collapsed. As such, I have ordered digging to begin on the north side of the idol in the hopes of finding an entrance.

2nd Report (Dated 23 Anguis)
Morlen,
The great idol has been fully excavated, although some work remains on the structure that stands behind it. It is quite an impressive sight, though you are no doubt familiar with its appearance from earlier drawings so I will not bore you with another. No sign yet of any entrance to Aht’Razzi’s suspected complex but he remains optimistic.
Viktor did not return last week. I presume that he has been reassigned, though if that is the case I would very much desire to have a replacement. I have no complaints about the industriousness of the men under me, but we can ill afford to lose any given our current pace.

Great news! When we excavated the last of the “backdrop” behind the idol, we uncovered two elaborate doors. So much for the tunnel theory. Aht’Razzi was almost excited, if you can believe it. He is concerned that we may have to damage the doors and insists on making extensive – even for him – records of them before any attempts are made to open them.
Since neither Viktor nor Karl has returned and no attempt has been made to inform me as to why my work force is being decreased, I am concerned that they may have been intercepted or worse. If this missive reaches you, please send a response immediately using the attached token. Throwing it to the ground will cause it to transform into a bird, which will allow you to attach a short message to its leg to bring to me.
