Legwork

At various points throughout the story, curious PCs may with to ask around about some of the topics they have heard about. Have them make appropriate skill checks; the higher they roll, the more information they have available. Give the characters the information appropriate to the highest DC they equal or exceed with their roll, plus all the lower DCs.

Lost Citadel of Nier (Bardic Knowledge, Gather Information, Knowledge (Religion), Knowledge (Blessed Lands), or other knowledge skills at the judge's discretion: PCs with the Church Education feat receive a +5 circumstance bonus on this check.)
DC 10 – This is one of the twelve citadels constructed and dedicated to the Human Pantheon during the First Imperium.
DC 15 – Of the twelve, this is the only citadel whose location remains a mystery.
DC 20 – It is widely believed that the ruins of this citadel are located in the SW portion of the Corlathian Mountains, somewhere in a petrified forest.
DC 25 - In many circles, this citadel is believed to be the last known destination of the Sword of the Heavens.

The Sword of the Heavens (Bardic Knowledge, Gather Information, Knowledge (Religion), Knowledge (Blessed Lands), or other knowledge skills at the judge's discretion. PCs with the Church Education feat receive a +5 circumstance bonus on this check.)
DC 10 – Recently, the Sword reappeared in Canceri and led a civil war there. He then marched an army of forty thousand loyal warriors though Milandir, devastating it. The Sword marched his armies into the Blessed Lands, and only twenty thousand warriors returned without the Sword at their head. This army was in turn destroyed by the combined might of the Coryani, Canceri, and Milandir at the "Battle of Four Armies." But, what happened to the other twenty thousand warriors and the Sword remains a mystery to this day.
DC 15 – The Sword once ruled an empire known as the Theocracy of the Cleansing Flame, which destroyed the First Imperium.
DC 20 – The Theocracy of the Cleansing Flame collapsed under its own cruelty and the Sword disappeared for many generations.
DC 25 – No one knows for sure who or what the Sword really is, but it is believed that he is an extension of the will of Nier given human form.

The First City (Bardic Knowledge, Gather Information, Knowledge (Blessed Lands), or other knowledge skills at the judge's discretion. PCs with the Church Education feat receive a +5 circumstance bonus on this check.)
DC 10 – The location of this city was lost during the shadowed age and it has only recently been rediscovered. This city is of extreme religious importance to the Mother Chuch, and most devout members are expected to go on a pilgrimage to the First City at least once during their life.
DC 15 – The Elorii once founded a city on the same location. It was known as Belistor.
DC 20 – After the defeat of the Elorii by the humans, the humans founded their capital on the ruins of Belistor.
DC 25 – The First City dates back to well before the First Imperium, and it actually has several different cities built on top of each other.

The Other Expeditions (Bardic Knowledge, Gather Information, Knowledge (Coryan), Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty), or other knowledge skills at the judge's discretion.)
DC 10 – There were three other expeditions.
DC 15 – All the expeditions were well armed and equipped.
DC 20 – Each expedition left three weeks apart.
DC 25 – No signs have ever been found of the other expeditions.

The Soldier Saints of Dagha (Bardic Knowledge, Gather Information, Knowledge (Blessed Lands), Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty), or other knowledge skills at the judge's discretion. PCs with the Church Education feat receive a +5 circumstance bonus on this check.)
DC 10 – These are a group of knights who escort pilgrims safely through the Blessed Lands.
DC 15 – At any one time, there are only about 50 members of this order.
DC 20 – The origins of this order revolve around a vision of Illiir during the second Coryani- Khitani War.
DC 25 – These warriors are extremely capable, and for an expedition to be led by one is considered to be a good omen.

DC 10 – Bandits lurk in some mountain passes.
DC 15 – The terrain in the Blessed Lands is extremely unforgiving. Water holes frequently run dry and sandstorms sometimes blind travelers or make them lose their way. There have been tales of the sand simply swallowing people or animals whole.
DC 20 – The savage Voei are known to hunt the area, and they are fond of human flesh.
DC 25 – Though infrequent, rumors of Khitani raiders still circulate among the pilgrims moving through the Blessed Lands.
