My dearest Elise,
By the time this letter reaches you I will be beyond suffering and pain. I
have seen my fate and accept that my time is ended. But I fear for you, my only
child, with so much of your life yet to live. I have seen the truth of my innocence,
and the face of darkest evil.
That evil must not touch you, my dear daughter. For your own safety, I beg you leave as soon as you are able. Think not to stay, seeking aid from guardians within the city. The very ones to whom you would turn for protection may pose the greatest threat.
