Description

Kalysta is a young Val woman of 19 years, with golden-brown hair and silver-grey eyes that survey the world calmly. She wears loose, barely-concealing clothing of silken scarves in shades of reds and violets, and edged in gold. A gold coin hangs suspended from a fine silver chain around her neck, marking her as one of the Divine Harlot's own.

A golden rapier is hooked to a ring on a silken sash around her waist, a whip is similarly secured on the other side, and a light crossbow is strapped to her back. She carries very little else.

Family

Kalysta Evelina val'Sheem is the third and youngest daughter of Senator Marcus Lucan val'Sheem and his wife Cornelia Tullia val'Sheem.

This branch of the val'Sheem family has extensive holdings outside the city consisting primarily of lush vineyards and groves of olive trees, in the center of which is the ancestral family villa. It is situated on a hill from which the city and port of Sweet Savona can be seen, but is a full day's ride outside of the city proper. The family vineyards produce mostly full-bodied Savonan reds, though the efforts of Marcus and his eldest son over the past fifty years have resulted in a small quantity of sweet, exquisite whites and correspondingly sweet and full-bodied reds as well. 

When the familiy is in town, they occupy a small island with a villa centered in extensive gardens. During the social season, Cornelia stays in residence, often sponsoring parties and teas for the daughters of val'Sheem cousins and the most promising of the patrician girls of allied families. Many a young girl owes her introduction to society to Cornelia and her patronage. However, when the season is over, Cornelia is quite happy to move back to the estate and rejoin her beloved husband.

Marcus val'Sheem spends as little time as he can in Grand Coryan at the Senatarium, preferring instead to walk the vineyards and groves of the estate and discuss varietals with his vinter and estate manager. Still, the Senator brings a deep and abiding love for his land and people to his responsibilities as a Senator, and he would never consider giving those responsibilities less than his best.  

Kalysta's oldest sister, Antonia, is about 12 years Kalysta's senior, and has made a name for herself in Coryani politics, She is married to <name>, a scholar who prefers to stay on their estate to superintend the education of their three children and manage the estate while Antonia ably manages the family's political capital. She is not in line for her father's Senator's seat, preferring less direct methods to achieve the families' goals.

Marcellus Lucan is Kalysta's oldest brother, and their father's heir. He is 10 years Kalysta's senior, and her favorite among her siblings. Marcus has inherited his father's love for the land and the people, and is quite content to spend his time on their stewardship. His wife Augustina was one of Cornelia's protegees, and assists her mother-in-law, adding her own touches as well.

The next oldest is Marina, 6 years older than Kalysta. Marina found the love of her life when she was just 11, and remained unswervingly devoted to him throughout the years before they were permitted to wed. <name> was just as devoted to Marina, and they have been happily managing his family's business and raising (so far) 4 beautiful children.

Finally, Adrian Gallus val'Sheem is 3 years older than Kalysta, and will probably inherit his father's Senate seat. From an early age, he showed promise in oratory and governance, and a grasp of politics second only to Antonia's. Married two years ago to <name>, they have one child and have recently moved to Grand Coryan where Adrian serves as his father's proxy when Marcus cannot attend the Senate.

Kalysta's childhood was one of freedom and joy. Encouraged by her parents to find her own path, she ran wild on the estate until she was 6 or 7, when she declared her intention to become a priestess. Dedicated at the temple, she split her time over the next few years between the temple school (and eventually the temple), the family home in Savona, and the estate. She learned the social graces as well as the duties of the priesthood without ever losing the love of the land learned from her father.

Kalysta and her father are exceptionally close, and it's easy to see where she gets her philosophies and attitudes. Her mother jokingly remarks that she doesn't know how Kalysta came to the family, since she doesn't resemble her mother at all. Yet, her mother's influence can be seen in her poise and social instincts.
